Cable entry systems

Cable entry systems for pre-terminated cables

A cable entry system routes complete cables with connectors through a wall or panel plate without stripping them. You keep the enclosure rating, the cable is strain relieved and the panel stays tidy. Grommets, frames and plates ship from stock.

  • Route connectorised cables without dismantling
  • IP66 with correct fitting and grommet size
  • Strain relief to EN 62444 available
  • Supplied as single grommets or complete plates

Questions about size or type? A technical advisor replies within 3 hours.

What is a cable entry system?

A cable entry system is a split or elastic element that seals a cable through a wall and holds it against pull-out. Unlike a gland, the cable is not pushed through a round hole: the grommet is wrapped around the cable and then clipped into a frame or plate. That lets you keep pre-terminated cables with plugs, sensor heads or ferrules intact, which is where most assembly time is saved in machine building and panel building.

Choosing a grommet, frame or plate

Single grommets suit one cable or a small cut-out. A frame is populated with grommets in different sizes and clipped into a rectangular cut-out, which is ideal when cables will be added later. A plate fits a standard connector cut-out and is the fastest route for a fixed cable count. In a frame, always allow a few blank grommets as spares so future expansion is just a swap.

Sizing and reaching the IP rating

Measure the outer diameter of the cable jacket, not the connector, and pick the grommet whose clamping range holds that diameter near its middle. At the top of the range sealing drops off; at the bottom the cable slips. IP66 is only reached when the cut-out is within the stated tolerances, the grommet closes fully and the jacket is clean and undamaged. For outdoor use or washdown areas we are happy to review the selection with you.

From stock, or pre-assembled

The most requested grommets, frames and plates are held in stock and ship the same day when ordered before 16:00 CET. For larger series we supply plates pre-assembled with your grommet layout and labelling, which cuts assembly time on the floor and avoids wrong sizes in the field.

Checklist for your enquiry

  • Outer diameter of each cable jacket in mm
  • Cable count now and expected expansion
  • Cut-out shape and size, or connector size
  • Required IP rating (IP54, IP65, IP66)
  • Environment: oil, cleaning agents, outdoor, temperature

Frequently asked questions

Can a cable entry system reach IP66?
Yes, with the right grommet size, a cut-out within tolerance and an undamaged jacket. Exceed the clamping range and the seal performance drops.
How does it differ from a cable gland?
A gland needs the cable pushed through a round hole, so it cannot have a connector fitted. An entry grommet wraps around the cable, so pre-terminated cables stay intact.
Do I need strain relief?
For moving or suspended cables, yes. Grommets and frames with integrated strain relief to EN 62444 are available; for heavy cables we advise a separate clamp right behind the entry.
Can plates be supplied pre-assembled?
Yes. Send the cable diameters and counts and we deliver the plate or frame fully populated and labelled.
