What is the difference between an Energiekette and a Schleppkette?
Technically there is no difference; both terms describe a system that guides flexible cables and hoses. 'Schleppkette' (drag chain) is the older term, still often used for heavy steel versions. 'Energiekette' (energy chain) is the modern, more common term in German industry, emphasising that the system carries energy (power, air, data).
Tsubaki Kabelschlepp at Wisman Group
Wisman supplies the complete Tsubaki Kabelschlepp range. As the inventor of the cable carrier in 1954, this brand offers systems for every challenge: from miniature chains for pick-and-place robots to giant steel carriers for offshore and cranes. We stock both the EasyTrax series (fast filling) and the robust UNIFLEX and Master series.
How to make the right choice?
For most standard applications, a plastic Energiekette is sufficient. They are lightweight, maintenance-free and cost-effective. As soon as extreme heat (above 100 °C), glowing swarf or extremely heavy fill weights are involved, we switch to steel. Always watch the inner dimensions during selection: use the actual diameter of your flexible cable including 10-20% clearance.
| Feature | Plastic (Energiekette) | Steel (Schleppkette) |
|---|---|---|
| Materiaal | Polyamide (PA6 / PA12) | Verzinkt staal / RVS |
| Gewicht | Laag | Hoog |
| Snelheid | Tot 10 m/s | Tot 2-3 m/s |
| Temperatuur | Tot 100 °C | Tot 250 °C |
| Toepassing | Algemene machinebouw | Zware industrie, gieterijen |
