ATEX and ESD: dissipating charge
A standard polyamide carrier is an insulator; friction builds up static charge. In zone 1 or 2 and in ESD-sensitive production choose an electrically conductive version with a surface resistance below 10⁶ Ω and bond the end brackets to machine earth. Always request the material declaration; only that counts as evidence for your own inspection.
Cleanroom: particles are the enemy
Every moving joint releases wear particles. For ISO class 5 to 7 a closed carrier with a cover or a protective conduit in a glide trough works; for stricter classes combine that with extraction in the trough. Choose a version without open snap slots, as these cannot be fully cleaned.
Food and washdown: cleanable and corrosion-proof
With daily cleaning using hot water and disinfectant, galvanised steel is out; choose stainless 304 or 316, or a smooth plastic version resistant to alkaline agents. Mount the carrier so water can drain and avoid horizontal surfaces where liquid stands. For direct product contact ask for an FDA or EC 1935/2004 declaration.
