Cable entry systems

Icotek grommets and frames for pre-terminated cables.

Icotek cable entry systems route pre-terminated cables with connectors through an enclosure wall without dismantling the connector. Select on cable diameter and on the frame or grommet size that fits the existing cut-out; most series reach IP54 to IP66.

All about cable entry systems

Technical guidance from our engineers: how to choose, what to measure and where installations fail in practice.

Frames, grommets or plates — what fits where

An entry frame fits a standard cut-out (often 24-pole or 36-pole) and takes several pre-terminated cables. Individual grommets are the low-cost answer for one or a few cables in a drilled hole. Split plates and membrane plates suit walls that are already cut out and where cables may be added later. Always measure both the cut-out and the wall thickness, because the clamping frame has to close.

IP rating, strain relief and EMC

Most series reach IP54 to IP66 once all grommets are filled; close empty positions with blanking grommets. Separate strain relief clamps take the cable's pulling force so the entry only has to seal. For shielded cables there are EMC grommets with contact springs that bond the shield 360° to the frame — which only works against a bare, unpainted contact surface.

Installation without dismantling the connector

That is the whole point of these systems: the grommet clips around the cable instead of being pushed over the connector. Select grommets on the actual cable diameter (not the nominal one) and use one size per cable; forcing two cables into one grommet breaks the seal. Fill a frame from bottom to top, then tighten the clamping frame with an even torque.

Frequently asked questions

The questions our technical desk receives most often about this category.

How do I choose the right size of cable entry systems?

Start with the fill: the thickest cable sets the minimum inner height, the sum of all diameters plus 10% clearance sets the inner width. Then pick a bend radius of at least ten times the thickest cable diameter. Filter on those three values on the left and only suitable articles remain.

What is the lead time and when do you ship?

Articles marked 'in stock' ship the same working day when ordered before 15:00 CET. Articles 'on request' are made to order at the manufacturer; the lead time is stated in the quotation, typically 5 to 15 working days.

Do I get technical documentation and CAD files?

Yes. Every article lists a datasheet, a manual and a STEP file for your 3D model. All are free to download, no account required.

Are the prices volume prices?

The price shown is per unit. From the indicated tier quantity onwards the lower price applies automatically and is calculated in the cart. Use the toggle at the top to show prices including or excluding VAT.

Will an entry frame fit my existing cut-out?

Usually yes: most frames are made for standard connector cut-outs (24-pole, 36-pole, or round holes in imperial and metric sizes). Provide the cut-out size and the wall thickness and we will name the matching series.

What IP rating do I actually achieve?

The stated IP rating applies with all grommets filled, blanking grommets in empty positions and an evenly tightened clamping frame. One open position, or a grommet with too small a cable in it, defeats the whole seal.
