About the Control series

Flexible control cables for cable carriers: high core count, shielded or unshielded, flex-resistant.

Control cables connect sensors, valves and controllers to the control cabinet and move thousands of times daily in the cable carrier. Our range consists of fine-stranded control cables with and without shielding, featuring a jacket resistant to oil, coolant and wear.

All types are available by the metre and can be fitted directly into the cable carrier upon request, complete with dividers to keep power and control cables separated.

Key strengths

  • Core counts from 2 to 42 for every control application
  • Shielded versions to prevent interference from frequency inverters
  • Wear-resistant, oil-resistant jacket
  • Separated installation of power and control cables in the carrier

Typical applications

  • Sensor and actuator cabling on moving axes
  • Control of grippers and handling modules
  • Machine tools and robot cells
  • Measuring and test systems

All about flexible cables

Technical guidance from our engineers: how to choose, what to measure and where installations fail in practice.

Choosing cable for moving applications

A flexible cable for a cable carrier has a fine-stranded copper core, a short lay length in the bundle and an abrasion-resistant PUR or PVC jacket. Select on number of cores, cross-section, outer diameter and minimum bend radius; outer diameter and bend radius together decide whether the cable fits your carrier. PUR is standard where oil, coolant or outdoor use is involved; PVC is fine for drier, less demanding indoor applications.

Shielding, EMC and core separation

For variable frequency drives, servo motors and measurement signals, choose a shielded version and terminate the shield 360° at the enclosure — not with a pigtail. Never run power and signal loose in the same chamber of a carrier: fit a separator between them. On long runs, check voltage drop and cross-section; undersized cores are the most common cause of hot cables inside a carrier.

Copper surcharge and delivery per metre

Cable prices consist of a base price plus a copper surcharge that follows the daily copper rate; on this site the surcharge is listed separately so you see exactly what you pay. We supply per metre from the reel and cut to the requested length. State the required length per piece when ordering so the cable arrives in one piece rather than in joined remnants.

Frequently asked questions

The questions our technical desk receives most often about this category.

Should I choose shielded or unshielded?

Choose shielded whenever the cable runs alongside motor cables from a frequency inverter or carries analogue signals. Unshielded is sufficient for simple switching signals located away from sources of interference.

How do I prevent interference between power and control cables in a single carrier?

Place them in separate compartments using dividers and use shielded control cables. We configure it this way by default for pre-assembled deliveries.

Can I order control cables cut to size?

Yes, by the metre starting from one metre. Specify the length in the shopping cart or have us fit the cable directly into the cable carrier.

How do I choose the right size of flexible cables?

Start with the fill: the thickest cable sets the minimum inner height, the sum of all diameters plus 10% clearance sets the inner width. Then pick a bend radius of at least ten times the thickest cable diameter. Filter on those three values on the left and only suitable articles remain.

What is the lead time and when do you ship?

Articles marked 'in stock' ship the same working day when ordered before 15:00 CET. Articles 'on request' are made to order at the manufacturer; the lead time is stated in the quotation, typically 5 to 15 working days.

Do I get technical documentation and CAD files?

Yes. Every article lists a datasheet, a manual and a STEP file for your 3D model. All are free to download, no account required.

Are the prices volume prices?

The price shown is per unit. From the indicated tier quantity onwards the lower price applies automatically and is calculated in the cart. Use the toggle at the top to show prices including or excluding VAT.

How is the copper surcharge calculated?

The copper surcharge follows the copper rate and the cable's copper weight. We list the base price and the surcharge separately so that in a price comparison you see exactly which part is market price. The surcharge is fixed at the moment of ordering.

Which cable fits my carrier?

Two values decide: the outer diameter (does the cable fit its chamber with 10% clearance?) and the cable's minimum bend radius (which must be equal to or smaller than the carrier's bend radius). Both are listed in the specifications of every article.

Shielded or unshielded?

Shielded for variable frequency drives, servo motors, encoders and measurement signals; unshielded is fine for simple power and switching signals. When in doubt, choosing shielded is far cheaper than solving an EMC problem afterwards.
