Flexible cables

Trailing cables and flexible leads for moving applications: high flex life, oil and abrasion resistant.

Flexible cables are designed for continuous motion in cable carriers and trailing systems. The fine-stranded copper core, the supple jacket and any shielding together determine how many bending cycles the cable achieves. Select by number of cores, cross-section, outer diameter and minimum bend radius so the cable fits the inner dimensions of your carrier.

All about flexible cables

Technical guidance from our engineers: how to choose, what to measure and where installations fail in practice.

Choosing cable for moving applications

A flexible cable for a cable carrier has a fine-stranded copper core, a short lay length in the bundle and an abrasion-resistant PUR or PVC jacket. Select on number of cores, cross-section, outer diameter and minimum bend radius; outer diameter and bend radius together decide whether the cable fits your carrier. PUR is standard where oil, coolant or outdoor use is involved; PVC is fine for drier, less demanding indoor applications.

Shielding, EMC and core separation

For variable frequency drives, servo motors and measurement signals, choose a shielded version and terminate the shield 360° at the enclosure — not with a pigtail. Never run power and signal loose in the same chamber of a carrier: fit a separator between them. On long runs, check voltage drop and cross-section; undersized cores are the most common cause of hot cables inside a carrier.

Copper surcharge and delivery per metre

Cable prices consist of a base price plus a copper surcharge that follows the daily copper rate; on this site the surcharge is listed separately so you see exactly what you pay. We supply per metre from the reel and cut to the requested length. State the required length per piece when ordering so the cable arrives in one piece rather than in joined remnants.

Frequently asked questions

The questions our technical desk receives most often about this category.

How do I choose the right size of flexible cables?

Start with the fill: the thickest cable sets the minimum inner height, the sum of all diameters plus 10% clearance sets the inner width. Then pick a bend radius of at least ten times the thickest cable diameter. Filter on those three values on the left and only suitable articles remain.

What is the lead time and when do you ship?

Articles marked 'in stock' ship the same working day when ordered before 15:00 CET. Articles 'on request' are made to order at the manufacturer; the lead time is stated in the quotation, typically 5 to 15 working days.

Do I get technical documentation and CAD files?

Yes. Every article lists a datasheet, a manual and a STEP file for your 3D model. All are free to download, no account required.

Are the prices volume prices?

The price shown is per unit. From the indicated tier quantity onwards the lower price applies automatically and is calculated in the cart. Use the toggle at the top to show prices including or excluding VAT.

How is the copper surcharge calculated?

The copper surcharge follows the copper rate and the cable's copper weight. We list the base price and the surcharge separately so that in a price comparison you see exactly which part is market price. The surcharge is fixed at the moment of ordering.

Which cable fits my carrier?

Two values decide: the outer diameter (does the cable fit its chamber with 10% clearance?) and the cable's minimum bend radius (which must be equal to or smaller than the carrier's bend radius). Both are listed in the specifications of every article.

Shielded or unshielded?

Shielded for variable frequency drives, servo motors, encoders and measurement signals; unshielded is fine for simple power and switching signals. When in doubt, choosing shielded is far cheaper than solving an EMC problem afterwards.
