Steel cable carriers

For long travels, high loads and harsh environments.

Steel cable carriers are the choice for long travels, high self-weight and environments with heat, swarf or chemicals. They carry more fill weight per metre than plastic and combine with support rollers for unsupported lengths beyond standard.

All about steel cable carriers

Technical guidance from our engineers: how to choose, what to measure and where installations fail in practice.

When to choose steel over plastic

Steel is the choice as soon as fill weight per metre, travel length or the environment exceeds what plastic can handle: hot swarf on lathes, glowing particles near cutting torches, high-pressure coolant, or outdoor installations with UV and frost. For very long travels with support rollers and guide troughs, a steel or hybrid design is usually the only structurally viable solution.

Made to order: what we need for a proposal

Steel carriers are supplied made to order. For a substantiated proposal we need four figures: travel length, fill (cable and hose diameters plus weight per metre), the required bend radius and the mounting situation (horizontal, hanging, vertical or rotating). The configurator on this site collects that in a few steps; you then receive a quotation with article numbers, chain length and lead time.

Designs and accessories

Available as an open band carrier, an enclosed design with covers, or a fully closed tube design with overlapping shells. Material in galvanised or stainless steel, depending on chemical load and wash-down. Standard accessories include end connectors at the fixed and moving point, separators, strain relief combs, support rollers and guide troughs in steel or plastic.

Frequently asked questions

The questions our technical desk receives most often about this category.

How do I choose the right size of steel cable carriers?

Start with the fill: the thickest cable sets the minimum inner height, the sum of all diameters plus 10% clearance sets the inner width. Then pick a bend radius of at least ten times the thickest cable diameter. Filter on those three values on the left and only suitable articles remain.

What is the lead time and when do you ship?

Articles marked 'in stock' ship the same working day when ordered before 15:00 CET. Articles 'on request' are made to order at the manufacturer; the lead time is stated in the quotation, typically 5 to 15 working days.

Do I get technical documentation and CAD files?

Yes. Every article lists a datasheet, a manual and a STEP file for your 3D model. All are free to download, no account required.

Are the prices volume prices?

The price shown is per unit. From the indicated tier quantity onwards the lower price applies automatically and is calculated in the cart. Use the toggle at the top to show prices including or excluding VAT.

What is the lead time for a made-to-order steel carrier?

Because it is made to order, lead time depends on series and length. In practice, allow 3 to 6 weeks after technical approval of the drawing. The exact lead time is always stated in the quotation.

Galvanised or stainless steel?

Galvanised steel is standard in dry and lightly contaminated environments. Choose stainless steel for coolants, wash-down water, aggressive cleaning agents, food production or coastal outdoor installations.
